Pure greatness from the second chapter of Jackie Wilson on
Brunswick Records – that great stretch when the singer had some mighty fresh
backings from the best soul talents Chicago had to offer – which really helped
him set loose with a whole new groove! Wilson's vocals have all the dynamic
energy of his early soul years, but he also gets an added level of
sophistication in the arrangements too – a vibe that's almost Chess/Cadet at
its best, handled by arrangers Carl Davis, Willie Henderson, and Sonny Sanders.
There's a few ballads that show a more mature, adult side of Wilson – mixed
with some soaring, spacious numbers that are mighty nice too – and even the
familiar tunes are nicely changed up by the work of the arrangers and the
singer. Titles include "You Keep Me Hangin' On", "I Get The
Sweetest Feeling", "You Brought About A Change In Me",
"Growin Tall", and "Since You Showed Me How To Be Happy".
CD features the bonus track "The Who Who Song". ~ Dusty Groove
JACKIE WILSON - LONELY TEARDROPS
Jackie Wilson really takes off here – leading the set with his landmark title track, then moving into a range of tracks that really display his tremendous vocal talents! The setting is a formative one in early soul – not entirely free from pop, but directed by the singer into really rich territory of his own – a blend of R&B roots, more sophisticated soul styles, and some more mainstream orchestrations that helped put Jackie over with a very large audience at the time. There's never been another singer like Wilson – and this album really gets at the core of his early genius – with tracks that include "Lonely Teardrops", "The Joke Is Not On Me", "Each Time I Love You More", "Love Is All", "You Better Know It", "Hush-A-Bye", "We Have Love", and "Someone To Need Me". CD features the bonus track "You Don't Know What It Means". ~Dusty Groove

One of Jackie Wilson's great little albums recorded on the Chicago
scene – part of that key second chapter of his career, when he really started
reinventing his sound with the groove of the Windy City! Wilson's working here
with help from Chicago studio talents Rich Tufo, Carl Davis, Willie Henderson,
and Eugene Record – and Jackie's voice is as sweet as ever, very well suited to
the loping soul groove that Record and Davis were forging at Brunswick! Tracks
include "The Girl Turned Me On", "Love is Funny That Way",
"The Fountain", "You Got Me Walking", and "You Left
The Fire Burning". Moves way past the cliches of earlier days, with many
interesting applications of Jackie's unique vocals! ~ Dusty Groove
