Cinema Royal Debuts with “The True North” – A Daring Blend of Modern Classical, Jazz, and Ambient

Renowned artists Rejoicer and Nitai Hershkovits, both celebrated members of the innovative group Apifera, unveil their new project, Cinema Royal. Their self-titled debut album, releasing on March 14, 2025, is a concept piece that delicately fuses modern classical, ambient, and jazz influences into a seamless, cinematic listening experience. The album’s first single, The True North, arrives on January 16, 2025, via Rhythm Section International.

Cinema Royal was born from years of collaboration and a shared vision. The duo’s mastery of improvisation and innovative composition brings together a dizzying array of global sounds. From East Asian zithers to Afrobeat-inspired drums and Ethio-jazz piano, every track is an intricate tapestry. Synthesizers blend effortlessly with orchestral strings, while funky drum machine patterns provide a restrained yet irresistible groove.

The album channels the energy of a film score, inspired by legends like Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, and Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou. “This project began with a simple drum loop and a single piano take,” said Nitai Hershkovits. “We wanted to craft music that felt cinematic, something that whispers to the listener and draws them closer.”

The first single, The True North, exemplifies this vision with its delicate yet audacious blend of piano-led melodies, lush instrumentation, and subtle rhythmic layers.

Rejoicer, a Stones Throw alumnus, and Nitai Hershkovits have a longstanding history of collaboration, previously creating groundbreaking works for labels like Raw Tapes. Their synergy, honed over years of creative exploration, is the cornerstone of Cinema Royal.
