Dave Lee & Maurissa Rose’s ‘London / Detroit’ Brings Soulful Synergy Across the Atlantic

For over 35 years, Dave Lee has continually sought out fresh voices and collaborations, building a rich legacy with iconic artists like Thelma Houston, Seal, Dianne Charlemagne, and Taka Boom. His latest musical partnership with Detroit's Maurissa Rose has resulted in the album London / Detroit, a stunning collection of Soul, Disco, and R&B tracks, seasoned with a touch of Soulful House.

The connection began when Dave first heard Maurissa's voice on a Theo Parrish track. After some phone calls and mp3 exchanges, they decided that working together in person would be far more rewarding than remote collaborations. In March 2022, Maurissa traveled from Detroit to London to write and record the album at Dave’s studio. This face-to-face approach proved to be the key to their creative process, resulting in 11 original songs and one cover that blend their shared love for classic and contemporary soul.

For Dave, London / Detroit is particularly special as it marks the first time he’s recorded an entire album with the same vocalist throughout. In the album’s liner notes, he describes Maurissa as a naturally creative, warm, and unpretentious artist, with her effortless vocal delivery perfectly complementing his intricate, passion-driven production. Dave’s vast expertise in Soul, Funk, and Disco shines through the album’s diverse styles—from the street soul vibes of “You Decide” to the disco flavors of “I Feel the Sun,” and the deep, bass-driven groove of “You’re Giving Me Life.”

With London / Detroit, Dave Lee proves that great music is ageless and boundless, and that creative synergy can bridge even the widest of distances.
