Holly Cole Returns with Dark Moon: A Fresh Take on Jazz and Pop Standards

Renowned Canadian and international vocalist Holly Cole will release her highly anticipated 13th studio album, Dark Moon, on January 24, 2025. The album, available via Rumpus Room/Universal Music Canada, features Cole collaborating with her long-time live performance partners and additional standout musicians to create an ensemble-driven masterpiece that showcases her signature style and versatility.

“I really wanted this album to embrace the spirit of spontaneity. At the same time, a quintessential part of the sound of my music is in the arrangements. We did very little rehearsal in advance, so the songs were incredibly fresh for us in the studio. What we end up hearing on this record is the moment when we discover what we love about the song and its essence,” shared Cole.

Known for her sultry voice and imaginative arrangements, Holly Cole defies categorization, blending elements of jazz, pop, and country. On Dark Moon, she reimagines classics from the New American Songbook by writers like Marty Balin, Peggy Lee, Hal David, Burt Bacharach, and Johnny Mercer.

The ensemble features long-time collaborators Aaron Davis (piano), George Koller (bass), Davide Direnzo (drums), and John Johnson (saxophone). The album also includes contributions from guitar virtuoso Kevin Breit, harmonica legend Howard Levy, and the harmony-rich vocals of the Good Lovelies. Together, they bring a unique richness to the album’s sound.

The lead single, "No Moon at All," is an up-tempo, sultry interpretation of the Peggy Lee classic, highlighted by a dazzling harmonica solo from Howard Levy, a two-time Grammy winner and original member of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones.

Dark Moon will be available on CD, 180-gram black vinyl, and in digital Hi-Res and ATMOS formats.
