Tina Turner’s Private Dancer Turns 40: Anniversary Edition Set for Release

Parlophone Records is proud to celebrate the 40th anniversary of GRAMMY® Award-winning legend Tina Turner’s iconic album, Private Dancer, with a spectacular re-release on March 21, 2025. This milestone edition features an impressive collection of previously unreleased tracks, live performances, and restored footage, paying homage to the album that cemented Turner’s place as a global superstar.

The Private Dancer (40th Anniversary Edition) will be available in multiple formats:

  • 5CD/Blu-ray box set
  • 2CD set
  • 1LP Pearl vinyl
  • 1LP Picture disc

A Landmark Collection

At the heart of this anniversary edition is the 5CD/Blu-ray set, which includes:

  • Newly restored footage from Turner’s Private Dancer Tour, filmed at the NEC in Birmingham in March 1985. Directed by David Mallet, the 55-minute concert features guest appearances by David Bowie and Bryan Adams, offering a mesmerizing front-row experience.
  • Upgraded music videos, including a 4K restoration of “Private Dancer,” sourced from its original 35mm film.

Additionally, this edition unveils a never-before-heard treasure:

“Hot For You Baby”, a previously unreleased track written by John Paul Young and produced by John Carter. Recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood and long thought lost, the track enriches the Private Dancer story with a fresh, dynamic layer.

Exclusive Formats

Other editions include:

  • A 2CD collection featuring remastered tracks and additional content.
  • A 1LP picture disc showcasing the UK/EU cover on one side and the US cover on the other.
  • A limited-edition 1LP Pearl vinyl, complete with a 12x12 art card of the US album artwork.

The Legacy of Private Dancer

Originally released in May 1984, Private Dancer marked Turner’s groundbreaking solo comeback. It earned her 5x Platinum certification, peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200, and topped the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The album garnered four GRAMMY® Awards, including:

  • Best Female Rock Vocal Performance (Better Be Good To Me),
  • Best Female Pop Vocal Performance,
  • Record of the Year, and Song of the Year (What’s Love Got To Do With It).

Described as “one of the most charismatic comebacks of modern rock” (American Songwriter) and “without question… Turner’s finest hour as a solo artist” (AllMusic), this timeless masterpiece remains a cultural touchstone.
