Iconic American blues artists Taj Mahal and Keb’ Mo’ are set to release their highly anticipated collaborative album Room On The Porch on May 23, 2025, via Concord Records. This marks the first studio album from the duo in eight years, following their GRAMMY-winning debut TajMo in 2017. The new ten-track album sees these two legends of American music coming together once again to blend their distinct sounds of blues, folk, soul, and Americana.
A Legacy of Musical Collaboration
TajMo, a powerful partnership that merges two generations of music masters, is ready to reclaim the spotlight. Room On The Porch is a deeply personal collection of songs written and co-produced by both Taj Mahal and Keb’ Mo’. Their chemistry is undeniable, and the album brings out the best in both artists. The album showcases a range of emotions, from the uplifting title track, "Room On The Porch" (featuring and co-written with 2x Song of the Year GRAMMY nominee Ruby Amanfu), to soul-searching ballads.
In a joint statement, Taj Mahal remarked, “We’re just trying to keep the culture moving forward,” a sentiment that echoes throughout the album and continues to drive their mission in the modern music landscape.
Keb' Mo’ reflected on the reunion, saying, “That first album turned out so great that part of me wondered if maybe we just got lucky. But when we got back into the studio together, I felt that same magic again, and I realized it wasn’t luck at all.”
A Track to Bring People Together
The album’s title track, Room On The Porch, beautifully exemplifies the duo’s philosophy of inclusivity and togetherness. With lyrics like “Stay as long as you like / That’s alright… Come on up / There’s room on the porch for everyone,” this track captures a message of hope, community, and friendship at a time when those values are more needed than ever.
Sonically Diverse and Rooted in Tradition
Room On The Porch isn’t just a reunion; it’s an exploration of musical evolution. Taj Mahal and Keb’ Mo’ embrace a wide variety of sounds in this record, proving why each artist is considered a standard-bearer in the genre-bending world of blues, soul, and Americana. With influences ranging from folk and soul to modern blues, the album highlights their shared cultural and musical roots. Taj Mahal, who recently received the Recording Academy’s prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, emphasized the importance of African influences on Western music, stating, "If you take the African imprint out of Western music for the last 500 years, there’s almost nothing left."
