Acclaimed guitarist and Wilco member Nels Cline has released “Slipping into Something,” the third single from his highly anticipated album Consentrik Quartet. Set to be released on March 14 through Blue Note Records, this album marks the debut of his new ensemble, Consentrik Quartet, featuring saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock, bassist Chris Lightcap, and drummer Tom Rainey.
Blending elements of swinging, grooving, and mesmerizing soundscapes, Consentrik Quartet showcases the deep musical chemistry among its members, while highlighting Cline’s incredible versatility as a guitarist and composer.
This spring, Cline will be touring with the Consentrik Quartet across the Northeast, including an April 14 performance at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City. The band will also perform at the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, Tennessee, on March 30. Cline will make four festival appearances in total this year, including performances with eucademix (March 28), Jenny Scheinman (March 29), and the expanded version of The Nels Cline Singers (March 28), marking their first live show since the 2020 release of Share The Wealth. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Cline found time to write much of the album’s material during lockdown, allowing him to refine his vision and sonic palette.
