Finnish duo Lampen is set to release their highly anticipated second album, Halogen, on September 20, 2024, via We Jazz Records. The pair, consisting of Kalle Kalima on guitar and Tatu Rönkkö on percussion and sampler, crafts a sound that transcends conventional boundaries. With bases in both Helsinki and Berlin—where Kalima resides—their music effortlessly bridges the two cities, drawing from a vast array of influences.
Lampen's sound is often compared to the wide, meditative landscapes of Earth and The Necks, but it charts its own path, carving out a unique space in contemporary jazz. Their music delves into deep, meditative territory, combining elements that extend well beyond the jazz genre. This results in a subtly intense, low-key sonic experience where ideas unfold naturally over time, allowing for unexpected yet cohesive moments of musical eruption.
The duo is set to bring Halogen to audiences on tour, including a performance at the We Jazz Festival in Helsinki, where they’ll share the stage with the legendary The Necks.
Halogen will be available in both LP and digital formats, offering a chance to experience Lampen's captivating fusion of meditative, post-jazz elements. Be sure to catch the album and the duo on tour this fall.
