Dana and Alden Announce New Album Speedo Out June 27 via Concord Jazz + Drop Infectious Lead Single “Don’t Run Away”

If you’ve been following the creative evolution of Dana and Alden McWayne — the sibling duo behind some of the most joyfully genre-defying sounds to come out of Eugene, Oregon — get ready for their boldest leap yet. Their upcoming album, Speedo, arrives June 27th via Concord Jazz, marking their debut on the label and a thrilling new chapter in their musical story.

A New Era Begins with Speedo

Recorded over two wild, rainy weeks in Lisbon with genre-blending producer and multi-instrumentalist Charif Megarbane, Speedo is far more than a jazz album. It’s a genre-colliding, synth-soaked sound collage that fuses jazz with funk, indie rock, disco, hip-hop, and more. Think cosmic grooves and analog experiments woven with personal storytelling and political fire.

Dana and Alden describe this album as an intentional step into unfamiliar territory — guided by curiosity, collaboration, and a refusal to be boxed in. “Making music as a political weapon is one of our main motivations,” Dana says, nodding to the album’s opening track “Norm,” written in honor of Palestinian rights scholar and activist Norman Finkelstein.

Lead Single “Don’t Run Away”

The first single, Don’t Run Away, is already making waves. A shimmering, synth-driven dance anthem that builds from emotional tension to euphoric release, the track features viral UK personalities MrBruv and Faye. Shot while on tour, the accompanying video captures the duo’s playful spirit and honest connection to their fans. It's a shimmering blend of vulnerability, disco beats, and cinematic flair.

The Backstory

From their early beginnings with the 2021 debut EP Brothers to 2023’s Quiet Music For Young People and Coyote, You’re My Star, Dana and Alden have always made music that feels personal and communal all at once. Whether it’s singing about Trader Joe’s runs with Cinya Khan or layering textures with their eclectic backing band (Andrew Mitchell, Ebba Dankel, Eli Torgersen, and Salim Charvet), this is a group that thrives on authenticity.
