Shanachie record label is offering a free download on Amazon.com of a smooth jazz sampler album that includes a track from singer and East St. Louis native Phil Perry. The sampler album is called Shanachie: Cool Urban Jazz, and also includes songs from drummer Norman Connors, saxophonist Kim Waters, singer Maysa, The Sax Pack, saxophonist Everette Harp, Streetwize, and saxophonist Jeff Kashiwa.You can download the whole album or individual tracks in .mp3 form for free here. Shanachie Records was founded in 1976 by Richard Nevins and Dan Collins and is one of the largest independent record labels in the world, and is currently distributed E1 Music. Starting as speciality fiddle music label they released work by Celtic groups such as Planxty, Clannad, and The Chieftans. Other genres on the label include Latin American, African music, soul, country, ska and smooth jazz. In 1989 they acquired Yazoo Records from Nick Perls which allowed them to release vintage jazz and blues recordings.
