Robert Glasper Experiment has announced North American tour dates including a February 28 show at the Highline Ballroom in New York City in celebration of their highly-anticipated new album Black Radio, which will be released by Blue Note Records that same day. The Highline Ballroom show will feature special guests including yasiin bey (Mos Def), Chrisette Michele, Lalah Hathaway and others. Tickets are currently on sale through the Highline Ballroom website. Glasper's tour will also bring him to Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Washington DC, with more dates to be announced shortly. See below for a full list of upcoming tour dates.
Glasper also teamed up with Indaba Music, the pioneering online music creation site, to launch a remix contest for the song "Move Love" from Black Radio, which features vocals from rising stars KING. Indaba's international community of more than 600,000 musicians will be given each component of the song-including the individual vocal, drum, keyboard, and other tracks-and asked to create their own remix. Glasper will judge all of the entries and select the winner, who will receive a $500 cash prize, a royalty-free one-of-a-kind piano sample created by Glasper for use in an original composition, and a signed copy of Black Radio.
Additionally, Glasper has released a lyric video for "Ah Yeah," the first official single from Black Radio which features Musiq Soulchild and Chrisette Michele, and is the #3 Most Added track this week at Urban AC radio (and the #1 Most Added new song at the format), a rare crossover achievement for a jazz pianist. The single is currently available through all digital retailers. Album pre-orders have also launched on Amazon and iTunes. A behind-the-scenes look at the making of Black Radio can be viewed on Glasper's YouTube Channel.
Black Radio boldly stakes out new musical territory and transcends any notion of genre, drawing from jazz, hip-hop, R&B, soul and rock, but refusing to be pinned down by any one tag. The album showcases Glasper as a multi-talented producer, songwriter, keyboardist, and bandleader, and features many of his famous friends from across the spectrum of urban music, seamlessly incorporating appearances from a jaw-dropping roll call of special guests that includes Erykah Badu, Bilal, Lupe Fiasco, Lalah Hathaway, Shafiq Husayn (Sa-Ra), KING, Ledisi, Meshell Ndegeocello, Chrisette Michele, Musiq Soulchild, Stokley Williams (Mint Condition), and yasiin bey.
