Sonar Kollektiv has announced the release of “This Won’t Do,” the new single from rising producer and multi-instrumentalist Alexander IV, arriving September 26, 2025. The track, which features the captivating vocals of Dutch artist Cézanne, is the first glimpse into Alexander IV’s highly anticipated debut album Alchemist, due in March 2026.
Alexander IV is the latest alias of eclectic Dutch musician Joris Feiertag. Widely known for his club-focused productions under the name Feiertag and as the drummer for Dutch funk trio Kraak & Smaak, he now turns toward a more soulful and cinematic direction. As Alexander IV, he explores hip-hop, soul, and jazz influences with a refined, nostalgic, and deeply personal touch.
“This Won’t Do” blends intricate detail with warmth, pairing a jazz-fueled breakbeat at 116 BPM with lush keys and subtle grooves. Cézanne’s soulful performance elevates the track, floating effortlessly above the rhythm and lending the single a heartfelt intimacy. The collaboration reunites the two Dutch artists after their earlier work together on “Burnin’” from the Bloom EP (Sidekick Music).
The upcoming album Alchemist takes this vision even further. Built from chopped, slowed, and reimagined sonic fragments, the project reflects Feiertag’s meticulous craftsmanship. Influenced by artists like Mr. Scruff, Thievery Corporation, The Herbaliser, Tosca, Kruder & Dorfmeister, SAULT, and Khruangbin, the album layers live instrumentation with modern production. Contributions from Bart Wirtz (flute, saxophone), Luuk Hof and Samir Saif (trumpet), and Robin de Zeeuw (double bass) enrich the sound, weaving jazz, funk, and soul into a seamless whole.
Guest vocalists including Cézanne, Oli Hannaford, and Pete Josef add further texture, shaping tracks that range from introspective soul to afrobeat-inspired grooves. As Alexander IV, Feiertag aims to alchemize these elements—organic and electronic, analog and digital, past and present—into something new and resonant.
With “This Won’t Do,” he opens the Alchemist chapter with understated elegance: a track that feels brand-new yet timeless, uncomplicated yet deeply crafted.
