Multi-GRAMMY®
Award winner Randy Brecker is back and sounding 'sweeter' than ever with a
heart-touching musical 'celebration', written and brought to life for Randy by
the talented Polish composer and trio leader, Wlodek Pawlik, and the wonderful
Kalisz Philharmonic conducted by Adam Klocek .
This
record is the result of a musical contribution to the celebration of the 1850th
anniversary of Kalisz, the oldest city in Poland. The culmination took place in June of 2010
with a concert called "Night in Calisia". The event was such a
success the musicians decided to go into the studio to record the project nearly
two years after the concert. The world premiere of a truly special project
celebrating the city's anniversary.
"I'm
honored to be nominated for this special project, a long time in the making
which makes it even more special. When my brother Mike (Michael Brecker) was
taken ill and needed bone marrow donors Wlodek Pawlik and family researched and
found the area of Poland where our family on my mother's side: (Tecosky) lived:
(Tykocin). After Mike's passing he wrote a suite dedicated to our family and the
rigors or persecution in Poland, and I went to Tykocin and performed it. This
became the CD Nostalgic Journey. Night in Calisia is part 2 of that journey.
After winning Record or the Year in Poland 2013, I'm very happy that Night in
Calisia is also being honored in the USA with a GRAMMY® Nomination!
Amazing!...Thank you all!" - Randy Brecker
"...I
was extremely happy that Wlodek accepted the commision of the Kalisz
Philharmonic to write original music for us. It's not the first time that our
orchestra has had the privilege to work with this outstanding composer and
jazzman. This time around though, we are proud to present a world-premiere of a
truly special project celebrating the city's anniversary, performing new
remarkable compositions by Wlodek Pawlik, joined by the world-famous jazz giant
Randy Brecker and the Wlodek Pawlik Trio. In my opinion, the music created by
Pawlik is really beautiful, full of emotions and contrasts. I'm certain that it
will catch your fancy..." Adam Klocek, Director of the Kalisz Philharmonic
