DR. JOHN - TRIBAL
429 Records released Tribal, the extraordinary new album by Dr. John and the follow up to his Grammy winning 429 Records album, The City That Care Forgot (2008). AKA the Night Tripper, the iconic American musician has returned with another spectacular slice of mercurial sounds. Steeped in his trademark melange of rock, funk, jazz, voodoo-inflected r&b and Creole flavor, Tribal is a statement that builds upon his already formidable musical legacy. Dr. John (aka Mac Rebennac) is joined by his band, the Lower 911 and they perform alongside several guest artists including 2009 Grammy winner Derek Trucks, New Orleans legend Allen Touissant, Donald Harrison and the late Bobby Charles, for whom the album is dedicated. Tribal is available August 3rd on 429 Records. Dr. John and the Lower 911 are currently on an extensive North American tour. Dr. John has long been considered the physical embodiment of the vibrant culture of New Orleans. Throughout his illustrious musical career--from his roots as a New Orleans-based session musician back in the 1950's playing with legends like Professor Longhair, Art Neville and Joe Tex, to forging his distinctive voodoo-inflected rhythm and blues psychedelia throughout the 60's and 70's, to his tireless efforts recording, performing and being a spokesman for the city today, (he had a recurring role in the critically acclaimed HBO series "Treme") his colorful persona and talents transcend musical genres and art forms garnering respect from fans, cultural peers, civic leaders and beyond. 429 Records is a unit of the Savoy Label Group (SLG). SLG is the North American unit of CME (Columbia Music Entertainment), the oldest music company in Japan.
