UPCOMING RELEASES FROM SLY & THE FAMILY STONE, SARAH VAUGHAN, GEORGE BENSON, WES MONTGOMERY & OTHERS…

A new Greatest Hits release is due from Sly and the Family Stone catalogue It is scheduled for release on August 28 and will be in digipak packaging along with new liner notes and photos.

Verve Records has a whole lot of album reissues and titles on the upcoming calendar.  They will release 13 titles, all planned for August 21.  They are: Lady Sings the Blues (Billie Holiday); Ella in Hamburg, The Very Best of the Duke Ellington Songbook, The Very Best of the Gershwin Songbook (Ella Fitzgerald); Ruby Ruby (Gato Barbieri); Shape of Things to Come (George Benson); Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Jimmy Smith); Nights From the Alhambra (Loreena McKennitt); Lift to the Scaffold (Miles Davis); Live at Mister Kelly’s (Sarah Vaughn); Getz Au Go Go (Stan Getz); Oscar Peterson Trio Plus One (Oscar Peterson Trio); and Goin’ Out of My Head (Wes Montgomery).
 
Concord Jazz has slated a series of Live at The Monterey Jazz Festival titles, and they include: Dizzy Gillespie (Live at the 1965 Monterey Jazz Festival); Louis Armstrong (Live at the 1958 Monterey Jazz Festival); Miles Davis (Live at the 1963 Monterey Jazz Festival); Sarah Vaughan (Live at the 1971 Monterey Jazz Festival); Thelonius Monk (Live at the 1964 Monterey Jazz Festival); as well as a Various Artists compile called Live at the Monterey Jazz Festival.  All are scheduled for release on August 21.

A Number 1s series compilation title in the works for Lionel Richie and the Commodores, and will be released by Motown on August 28.  Motown will also release Number 1s for Stevie Wonder on August 21.

Kool & the Gang Videology will be released on DVD for Kool & The Gang on August 28 by Mercury Records.

Polydor Records will release Volume 2 of Millennium Collection: 20th Century Masters: The 70s, for James Brown on August 28.

A series of the upcoming Ella Fitzgerald “best of” sets are scheduled for August 21.  They are distillations of larger, more meticulous 4LP sets released in the late ‘50s.  The sets are The Very Best of the Duke Ellington Song Book (1957 – Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Duke Ellington Song Book) and The Very Best of the Gershwin Song Book (1959 – Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Gershwin Song Book).
