Columbia will release Duets: The Making of an American Classic by Tony Bennett on DVD with a street date of May 1.
Keiko Matsui’s new album, Moyo, will be released on April 24. Guests appearing on the CD include Paul Taylor and Hugh Masakela.
Nonesuch Records will release a various artists tribute to Joni Mitchell called A Tribute to Joni Mitchell. it is planned for April 24. Guests artists include Björk, Elvis Costello, Prince, Annie Lennox, and Sufjan Stevens, among others.
Veteran performer Natalie Cole provided the special entertainment at the 23rd Annual Communications Awards Dinner presented by the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB) on March 23rd, at Marriott's Wardman Park Hotel, in Washington, D.C. The annual event honors those who have contributed to the black-owned broadcasting and communications industries.
Drummer Roy Haynes, jazz singer Mark Murphy, trumpeter Wynton Marsalis' "Congo Square" and singers Cesaria Evora and Seu Jorge will headline the 28th annual Montreal International Jazz Festival, running June 28 to July 8. Other major attractions will include Tortoise, the Dave Holland Quintet, Joshua Redman, Keith Jarrett, Branford Marsalis and the Spaghetti Western Orchestra in a tribute to film composer Ennio Morricone.
Robin Thicke, The Wailers, and the Jazz Attack starring Rick Braun, Jonathan Butler, Peter White & Richard Elliot have been added to the SunFest 2007 line-up to be held May 3-6 in West Palm Beach, Florida. SunFest 2007 will be held from May 3-6 along the Flagler Drive waterfront in West Palm Beach.
Chaka Khan is headlining America’s 400th Anniversay Concert saluting the founding of America’s beginnings in Jamestown, VA. The concert is set for May 12.
The Teddy Pendergrass Alliance (TPA), a non-profit organization started by legendary singer Teddy Pendergrass, will host a June 10 benefit at Philadelphia's Kimmel Center to benefit spinal cord injury survivors. "Teddy 25" will be hosted by comedienne Mo'Nique, and will boast performances by Patti La Belle, Ruben Studdard and Stephanie Mills, among others. Pendergrass, who was paralyzed from the waist down after a near-fatal 1982 car crash, will premiere a new song written specifically for the occasion. Pendergrass, who after 19 years away from the stage returned in May 2001 for a sold-out concert tour, was inducted in 2005 into the SCI (Spinal Cord Injury) Hall of Fame for his work with injured individuals.
Reprise Records will release the new Michael Bublé in both the standard CD issue and a Special Edition. The album will be called Call Me Irresponsible and is scheduled to be released on May 1.
Concord Records will release the new Jane Monheit disc called Surrender on May 1.
Saxophonist Kim Waters is preparing to release his 16th solo album, titled You Are My Lady after his soulful cover of the '80s Freddie Jackson hit. The follow-up to his 2004 set All For Love also includes covers of Natalie Cole's Inseparable, Marvin Gaye's Got To Give It Up, contemporary R&B star Ne-Yo's hit So Sick, and a version of Roberta Flack's The Closer I Get To You featuring Grammy winning singer Lisa Fischer. Waters also composed a number of original tracks for the CD, which he produced with Chris "Big Dog" Davis and Davy D. You Are My Lady will be release March 27th on Shanachie.
