Bassist, vocalist and composer
Richard Bona has released his fourth studio album out now entitled,
Tiki. Bona takes his musical influences ranging from Afrobeat, Latin rhythms, jazz, pop, bossa nova and funk, and presents his own unique twist on it all with an underlying African exquisiteness on the soothing
Tiki. From the lovely nursery rhyme
Ida Bato to the jazzy ballad
Esoka Bulu, the samba-influenced
Akwa samba Yaya, or the lead song
Please Don’t Stop which features vocals by
John Legend.
Richard Bona takes the listener on a journey from his African roots that shows both growth and maturity. Bona was born in Cameroon and grew up in a musical family, and after moving from Cameroon to Paris and finally to New York in 1985, he became one of the most in demand collaborators on the international jazz scene. He worked with a remarkable array of artists such as
Paul Simon, Harry Belafonte, Chaka Khan, Queen Latifah,
Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and
Salif Keta to name a few. His debut album
Scenes From My Life was released in 1999, followed by two critically acclaimed albums that made him a true ‘triple threat’ to the music world.
Richard Bona is slated to perform at Joe’s Pub in New York City on September 6.
