On the fifth album of his career, appropriately titled Cinco De MOWO!, Adam Dorn a.k.a. Mocean Worker (pronounced Motion Worker) has assembled the quintessential feel-good summer record of 2007. To be released on his own label MOWO! Inc. (distributed by RYKO Distribution) in summer 2007, the opening number, quite simply, says it best: “Shake Ya Boogie.” In what has become the incomparable Mocean Worker sound, Dorn mixes and matches the best of modern beat-making with live musicians like trumpeters Herb Alpert (”Changes”) and Steven Bernstein (”Shake Your Boogie”), bassist Marcus Miller (”Brown Liquor”), alto saxophonist Cochemea Gastelum (”Les & Eddie” and “Son of Sanford”) and vocalists Morley (”I Got You”) and Alana Da Fonseca (”Que Bom”). Also contributing to the sessions from “the great beyond” is the late and legendary jazz icon Rahsaan Roland Kirk (”Reykjavik” and “Siss Boom Bah”).
“I don't hear anybody else making records that sound like this, so I'm happy to be that guy,” states Dorn. “That's why it was so significant to get Herb Alpert on board because much like he appealed to a lot of people back in the day, my records are likewise making single women in Iowa dance to that scary four letter word 'jazz' without them even knowing it. And simultaneously it's not compromising or dumbing the music down at all.”
Cinco De MOWO! follows up Mocean Worker's 2005 release Enter The MOWO!, which has gone on to become Adam Dorn's biggest record to date after having success at radio across the country. It's also where Dorn's true vision for the definitive Mocean Worker sound began to gel. Shedding the expectations of the electronica scene with which he was often associated at the outset of his career, Dorn began to more liberally embrace his jazz and funk influences, while keeping the focus on crafting songs with undeniable hooks. On Cinco De MOWO!, that vision has come into full focus. More than just funky break beats, tunes like “Shake Ya Boogie,” “Tickle It” and “Sis Boom Bah” find their way deep into the sub-conscious with melodies that reverberate long after the record has ended.
Dorn also further explored sounds and flavors from different periods in music's history, re-conceptualizing them for the 21st century. “Les & Eddie” and “Changes” are obvious nods to the late '60s/early '70s soul-jazz-funk gumbo of artists like Les McCann & Eddie Harris, while songs such as “Tickle It,” “Son of Sanford” and “Brown Liquor” draw from '30s big band swing. Jump ahead to the late '70s/early '80s and “Que Bom” parlays elements of Nuyorican soul. Go even deeper and “Pretty” is a contemporary Bossa Nova.
“This time out I wanted to mess around more with things that sounded old, but present them in a new context,” explains Dorn. “There are tunes that emulate music from the 1930s, like if Cab Calloway was making records now. That music had mass appeal, but was rooted in jazz. It's a perfect indication of what my goals were while I was making the album.”
On Cinco De MOWO!, the Mocean Worker sound is ultimately defined. From the opening rumble of “Shake Ya Boogie,” it's audibly apparent you've entered the world of Mocean Worker. Subtle improvisations emerge within tight arrangements, grooves appear inside of grooves, samples of samples are re-imagined and mingle comfortably among some of the world's finest living, breathing jazz musicians and always present are the hooks that make for the tastiest of tasty ear candy.
Dorn concludes: “I really just want people, all kinds of people to put this record on and have a nice time, enjoy themselves, clean their houses, drink themselves into a stupor, whatever it takes, it's all good.”
Mocean Worker is confirmed to appear at Bumbershoot 2007 and will host a residency this summer at New York City's Nublu, which will feature his live band and rotating cast of special guests.

SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO TO PREMIRE SIRIUSLY SINATRA APRIL 19
Sirius Satellit (Nasdaq: SIRI) and the family of Frank Sinatra announced today that they will premiere their new, one-of-a-kind radio channel dedicated to the music, time and spirit of Frank Sinatra this Thursday, April 19 at 3 pm ET. The Siriusly Sinatra channel will debut with a special live performance from Frank Sinatra recorded at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas in 1966.

The sixth annual Rochester International Jazz Festival has announced the lineup for its biggest and most diverse festival of creative improvised music. RICK BRAUN'S JAZZ ATTACK
Smooth Jazz trumpeter Rick Braun has just completed a new, as-yet-untitled album of original tunes with saxman Richard Elliot, his ARTizen Music Group label partner. The CD will be released this summer, when Braun will be back on the road with Jazz Attack, the superstar group featuring Braun, Peter White, Richard Elliot and Jonathan Butler. Jazz Attack will kick off their tour on April 14th at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival in Jacksonville, Florida, then continue on to other jazz fests on the summer circuit, as well as regular dates. The foursome will be touring nonstop through late August, with several dates into October. Their band on the road will be drummer Rayford Griffin, guitarist Dwight Sills, keyboardist Ron Reinhardt and bassist Stan Sargeant.

BRIAN MCKNIGHT VH1 SOUL TOUR TO BEGIN APRIL 25
Best-selling soul star Brian McKnight will hit the road in April for a U.S. tour supporting his current album "Ten," which was released by Warner Bros. Records in December. The tour, which is sponsored by VH1 Soul, begins April 25th in San Diego, California, and features support from multi-platinum R&B crooner Joe and gold-selling R&B songstress Sunshine Anderson.

eMusic MOMENTUM CONTINUES; TOPS 300,000 SUBSCRIBERS
eMusic, the world's largest retailer of independent music and the world's second largest digital music service after iTunes, continues its forward momentum: today the service announced that its subscriber base has topped 300,000 and that its global catalogue has reached 2.5 million tracks. The new subscriber tally comes approximately four months since eMusic hit the 250,000 subscriber mark.

JUDGE RULES NO CHANGE IN MUSIC ROYALTY RATES
The Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) today upheld its earlier decision on fair royalty rates to be paid to musical artists and record labels for the use of their work on Internet radio. The three-judge panel denied motions by Internet radio operators for a rehearing of the Board's March 1, 2007 decision setting performance royalty rates for Internet radio from 2006 to 2010.
The CRB wrote in its decision, " ... none of the moving parties have made a sufficient showing of new evidence or clear error or manifest injustice that would warrant rehearing. To the contrary ... most of the parties' arguments in support of a rehearing or reconsideration merely restate arguments that were made or evidence that was presented during the proceeding."
SoundExchange Executive Director John Simson declared that this is a victory for performing artists and record labels who work long and hard to produce music for all to enjoy. "Our artists and labels look forward to working with the Internet Radio industry -- large and small, commercial and non-commercial -- so that together we can ensure it succeeds as a place where great music is available to music lovers of all genres," said Simson.
"AFTRA recording artists applaud the Copyright Royalty Board for upholding their decision on Internet radio," said Kim Roberts Hedgpeth, National Executive Director of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA). "They deserve to be paid fairly for the use of the creativity, talent, and hard work they put into making music. Internet radio is growing and successful because fans want to listen to the music created by artists. The CRB's decision recognizes that, as these businesses grow, both featured and non-featured artists should be compensated at fair market rates for their contributions to the growth of these companies."
The CRB also wrote, " ... it appears that all evidence discussed in the motions had either been discovered during the proceeding or could have been discovered during the proceeding, with reasonable diligence." Additionally, the CRB found: "In the absence of an adequate showing of new evidence, the parties' arguments in their respective motions amount to nothing more than a rehash of the arguments that the Judges considered in the Initial Determination."
Michael Huppe, General Counsel of SoundExchange, in noting that SoundExchange is now looking forward to the next steps in the wake of the CRB ruling, said, "We are gratified that the CRB has upheld its decision. With the resolution of these motions, it is now time to move forward with business. It's in everyone's best interest to ensure a vibrant and thriving marketplace for Internet Radio and we intend to work with webcasters towards achieving that goal."
Additionally, the CRB denied the request of webcasters to stay implementation of the new royalty rates (2006-2010) until all legal appeals had been exhausted. In doing so, the CRB pointed to specific language established by Congress in the Copyright Act. The CRB wrote, " ... Congress, not the Judges determined the effective dates for the royalty rates ..." The CRB went on, "Moreover Congress determined that these rates would go into effect, notwithstanding any pending motions for rehearing..."
Barry Bergman, President of the Music Managers Forum-US, said, "For many artists a royalty check can mean the difference between continuing to create new and exciting music for a living, or allowing musical talents to be silenced. In recognizing the value musical artists bring to the success of Internet radio, the CRB has taken a necessary step in helping to ensure that many artists are able to continue using their special talents which are enjoyed by all."
The CRB also made two points of clarification regarding its Initial Decision. First, at the request of the webcasters, the CRB will allow them to use estimated ATH (Aggregate Tuning Hours) measures to determine audience listening for 2006 and 2007. However, the CRB said this is only for a transitional period, during which webcasters who have not yet implemented systems to track the music that they play will have the chance to do so.
Also, in response to SoundExchange's request for clarification, regarding whether the Initial Decision covers webcasting services delivered over cellular networks, the CRB indicated it did.
On March 2, 2007, the Copyright Royalty Board issued a fair and reasonable decision that sets compensation rates to be paid artists and record labels for the public performance of their works by Internet radio broadcasters from 2006-2010. The three-judge panel heard testimony from dozens of witnesses and conducted a comprehensive review of tens of thousands of pages of evidence submitted by all interested parties over an 18-month period. The decision is a reflection of the need for artists to be fairly compensated for the performance of their work by webcasters who benefit - financially or otherwise - from their talents. As the music industry evolves from CD-only sales to multiple distribution platforms it is critical that creators of music share in revenues from all platforms.
SoundExchange is the first performance rights organization in the United States to collect and distribute digital audio transmission royalties to artists and sound recording copyright owners. SoundExchange represents over 2000 record companies and thousands of recording artists, and is seeking out more labels and artists who are owed royalties for sound recordings played on digital cable and satellite television music services, satellite radio services or streamed via non-interactive webcast. The non-profit organization is governed by a board of artist and label representatives. Services include track level accounting of performances to all members and collection and distribution of foreign royalties to all members.

50th MONTEREY JAZZ FESTIVAL LINEUP ANNOUNCED
The Monterey Jazz Festival Presented by Verizon celebrates its 50th in grand style as the artists who have shaped both the Festival and the history of jazz reunite with the stages that have made MJF the longest running jazz festival in the world. The world-renowned event takes place September 21-23, 2007 on the familiar oak-studded and beautiful grounds of the Monterey Fairgrounds, the location of the Festival since 1958. Featuring some of the biggest living legends in the jazz world, MJF/50 promises to be the key event of 2007 in the world of live music.

Friday, September 21 will kick off the Festival with the multi-cultural and multi-dimensional talents of Cuban singer Issac Delgado; iconic bassist Dave Holland, appearing with Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Chris Potter and Eric Harland in a special all-star band; and the influential and mesmerizing guitarist John McLaughlin. On the Grounds, the vibe will be no less electric with the New Grooves show in Dizzy’s Den being visited by three slices of funk bands from New Orleans, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, the Brass Funk Rock group Bonerama, and the jazz-inflected Papa Grows Funk.
Also on Friday night, in a meeting of genius minds, Jim Hall and Geoff Keezer will perform as an understated yet intense duo; the freewheeling guitarist Anthony Wilson and his Nonet will perform, and the cutting-edge pianist Craig Taborn and his Trio will forge new sounds. The Grounds will also feature the Terence Blanchard Quintet performing their visionary and rootsy brand of jazz, the straight-ahead groove of Along Came Betty, and the gifted students of the Berklee-Monterey Quartet.
Saturday, September 22 will showcase a world of music from the blues to the symphonic, with the best-of-the-best in between. The Arena/Lyons Stage will rock in the afternoon with the raw blues sounds of artists Otis Taylor and James Hunter, followed by the legendary Los Lobos, featuring their own blend of blues, rockabilly, and Latin jazz, mixed with the music of their Mexican-American heritage. Evening on the Arena/Lyons Stage will turn from the blues to the highly anticipated debut of two large scale pieces—Artist-In-Residence Terence Blanchard’s Requiem for Katrina with the MJF Chamber Orchestra, and 2007 Commission Artist Gerald Wilson’s Monterey Moods, his third commission for the historic anniversaries of the Festival (25th, 40th, and 50th). The evening will end with the reigning queen of cool, Diana Krall in her third appearance at Monterey , her first MJF visit since 1999.
Saturday, the MJF grounds will witness an international cornucopia of blues, straight-ahead jazz, elegant vocalists, the avant-garde, jazz legends, and rising stars. Appearing will be the quartets of legendary six-stringers Jim Hall (MJF’s 2007 Showcase Artist) and Kenny Burrell, plus the electrified bluesy Mimi Fox Trio; rising young trumpeters Sean Jones and Christian Scott; the rollicking pianism of the Cyrus Chestnut Trio and the Shigeru Morishita Quintet; the radiant power of vocalists Ernestine Anderson and Lynne Fiddmont; the trailblazing drummer Rashied Ali and his Quintet; and the down-home traditional and electric-trance blues of James Hunter and Otis Taylor. Also featured will be the blues supergroup, The Honeydripper All-Stars, who are the subject of the John Sayles new film Honeydripper, which will be previewed in the Festival's Jazz Theater. Gerald Wilson and his Orchestra will also perform on the grounds on Saturday, as will bassist Dave Holland, with Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Chris Potter and Eric Harland.
Sunday, September 23 will cap off the 50th celebratory weekend in style, displaying the rich artistry of the living musical legends that have made Monterey the favorite jazz festival in the world (voted best jazz festival in the 2006 and 2007 JazzTimes Readers’ Poll), featured with the future stars of jazz. On the Sunday afternoon Arena/Lyons Stage, Los Angeles County High School for the Arts Big Band (winner of the 37th Annual National High School Competition at the Next Generation Festival) and the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra will take the stage along with Terence Blanchard. Ornette Coleman, one of the primary architects of jazz, will close Sunday's show, performing with his Grammy-nominated group.
Sunday night will offer a fitting culmination to the Festival's historic celebration with the premiere of the Monterey Jazz Festival 50th Anniversary All-Stars. Terence Blanchard, vocalist Nnenna Freelon, pianist Benny Green, legendary saxophonist James Moody, drummer Kendrick Scott, and bassist Derrick Hodge will perform; each has a strong connection with the Festival.
Blanchard is the 2007 Artist-In-Residence at Monterey, James Moody has been performing at Monterey since 1963, and Benny Green is a graduate of the Festival's world-renowned Jazz Education Programs, having performed as a high schooler with the Monterey Jazz Festival High School All-Star Big Band in the 1970s. Nnenna Freelon, a regular performer at MJF, also has connections with MJF Jazz Education Programs, having performed at the Festival's annual High School Jazz Competition. Kendrick Scott performed with the Berklee-Monterey Quartet at the Festival in 2000. This special group will tour across 60 cities in the United States , from January through March of 2008.
Sunday night will also witness the return of one of the patriarchs of the Festival, Dave Brubeck. Fans will be treated to a meeting of the minds as the Brubeck Quartet performs with a legendary architect and innovator of modern jazz guitar, Jim Hall, who also performed at the first Monterey Jazz Festival.
The finale on Sunday night will be the appearance of Sonny Rollins, the 6th time the legendary artist has performed at the Festival. The final night of the 50th Monterey Jazz Festival promises to rival the early MJF years, offering one of the most richly intense and memorable lineups in memory.
Sunday Grounds artist lineup will offer a gourmet selection of internationally known masters and young emerging talent. Audiences can enjoy the piano mastery of the Kenny Barron Trio and Jacky Terrasson, the unprecedented talents of Richard Galliano playing bebop accordion, and the jagged new music of the Smith Dobson V Quintet. The historic Monterey Jazz Festival 50th Anniversary All-Stars will also play a set on the Grounds, with additional appearances by MJF stalwart drummer Benny Barth and his Trio, featuring Buddy Montgomery. Sunday marks the return of Family Day sponsored by Macy's, reprising the concept launched at the 2006 MJF. Family Day features activities and fun for fans and families of all ages, including a Percussion Playshop where kids can have a hands-on experience with percussion instruments, the “Jazzy Jumper” where kids can bounce the day away, musical entertainment by the Banana Slug String Band, Sambada, and the country’s best high school bands appearing in nearby Dizzy’s Den.
In a move to mark the Festival's 50th Anniversary and leave a legacy for future fans,MJF will open a brand new area and a brand new venue on the grounds of MJF/50. Lyons Lane, named in honor of MJF founder Jimmy Lyons, will be an expansion of the grounds located adjacent to the Arena entrance on the Festival midway. As patrons stroll down the lane, they will relive the history, images, and music of the Monterey Jazz Festival in special MJF history displays. Partners–including Starbucks Coffee and ZonePerfect Nutrition Bars–will be distributing complimentary coffee and samples on the Lane, while partners from Borders will be hosting autograph sessions with MJF artists at a Borders Store on Lyons Lane .
At the end of Lyons Lane , fans will discover a brand new MJF venue called Lyons Lounge. Lyons Lounge was established in honor of MJF's historic milestone and is dedicated to the future. The Lounge will offer fans a hip jazz club, with DJ Logic and San Francisco DJ Vinnie Esparza remixing jazz, hip-hop, and dance music all weekend in a setting that promises to be the place to be at MJF/50.
The Festival is celebrating its 50th year with a range of activities and offerings. The milestone year will kick-off with a Golden Gala Celebration on April 7, 2007 at Tehama Golf Club. The evening will feature cocktails, dinner, entertainment, and the premiere presentation of the MJF Legends Award to Dave Brubeck. Space is still available as of this date. Other pre-Festival events include an evening celebration of art and jazz at the Monterey Museum of Art on June 26, 2007. Art and jazz feature prominently in the Festival's new publication "The Art of Jazz: Monterey Jazz Festival / 50 Years" telling the story of the Festival through its graphic imagery and photographic moments, capturing the MJF experience through posters, program covers, and exclusive photographs dating back to 1958. “The Art of Jazz” also includes a list of artists who have performed at MJF, along with a decade-by-decade look at the world and the Festival. Another aspect of the festival will be seen—and heard—with the formation of Monterey Jazz Festival Records, in conjunction with the Concord Music Group. Since 1958, the Festival has recorded nearly all of its Arena shows, leaving us a true legacy, a living history of jazz. MJF is issuing these rare and rarefied recordings, along with recordings of new groups performing at the Festival, through Monterey Jazz Festival Records. MJF’s Front Box Auction presents another opportunity for jazz fans to enjoy the Monterey Jazz Festival while supporting Jazz Education. The 3rd annual Jazz with Steinbeck event will offer fans an exclusive supper club evening in support of MJF’s Jazz Education Programs and the National Steinbeck Center ’s Youth Programs. DIONNE WARWICK RECORDING NEW ALBUM
Dionne Warwick says that only four months after releasing her last studio album, she's hard at work on a new gospel collection. Warwick posted to fans on her official website dionnewarwick.info that, "March came in like a lion for us here in (New) Jersey, tons of snow and ice making travel a bit dicey, but giving me a chance to do a bit of recording. I am in the process of doing a gospel CD, and am having a wonderful time. It will feature a few voices of my choir, and also my sister Dee Dee (Warwick), so be on the look out for this." Warwick did not mention when the set would be completed or released. Warwick also went on to reveal that she'll receive an honorary degree later this spring, saying that, "I am receiving an honorary degree from Chicago University for humanitarian reasons, and of course I am very excited about this." Last November Warwick released an album of duets, titled My Friends And Me, which was produced by her son Damon Elliott. The album featured collaborations with EstefGladys Knight, Olivia Newton-John, Gloria Estefan, and others.

ST. LUCIA JAZZ FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES STAR-STUDDED LINEUP
The 16th annual St. Lucia Jazz Festival promises to be a star-studded event, featuring such smooth jazz luminaries as Gerald Albright, George Benson, Al Jarreau, John Legend and more. The event kicks off May 4th and continues through May 13th and will take place at Pigeon Island's main stage and throughout local villages. Brazilian artist Tania Maria opens the main stage performances on May 10th with Grammy-winning John Legend following on May 11th. The roster on May 12th will be a mixed bag of musical sensations, including George Benson, Al Jarreau, Will Downing, Gerald Albright, Norman Brown, Boo Hinkson and Friends, and others. LARRY CORYELL RELEASES DOUBLE ALBUM 'RESTOSPECTIVE'
Legendary smooth jazz guitarist Larry Coryell will release a double-disc live set, Larry Coryell - A Retrospective, on May 15th. Recorded at The Avalon in Hollywood, California, the album features his famed fretwork throughout, joined by Bernard Pretty Purdie on drums. The one and only Michael Bublé's eagerly awaited new CD CALL ME IRRESPONSIBLE will be released on May 1st, which was confirmed by his record label, Reprise Records. The first single from the new album, the Bublé penned Everything, has just been released and will be performed by the artist on "The Today Show" on the day of the release. Jean-Luc Ponty is a pioneer and unquestioned jazz immortal. Ready for some "Hot Fun in the Summertime"? After two decades out of the spotlight, reclusive Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Sly Stone has decided to return to the concert stage. Sly and the Family Stone will headline the "Back in the Day" event July 7 in the Arena Green park near HP Pavilion. The concert will also feature the Average White Band and the Latin Sensations, a Latin rock supergroup.
EURweb-Sly Stone appears at George Wallace gig: Reclusive legend performs several numbers with Family Stone in Vegas. April 4, 2007. Sly joined The Family band for several songs, including 'Thank You', 'I Wanna Take You Higher' *& 'Dance to the Music'. Stone's half-hour appearance lasted throught the end of the concert. Afterward, he even signed autographs and walked among the crowd.
