ERIC WINSTONE PLAYS 007 / SUPERSONIC SOUNDS

A pair of albums from the U.K. scene of the 70s - and first up is Eric Winstone Plays 007 – which includes a batch of James Bond themes handled in a way that's a bit different than usual. Given the early 70s recording time of the record, the approach is nicely changed up from many 60s outings of this nature – production that's often got some nice warm touches, and arrangements that get a bit loose and free with the tunes – not nearly as slavishly tied to the original soundtracks. Winstone brings in some surprising jazzy flourishes to some numbers – and titles include "The Man With The Golden Gun", "Thunderball", "Diamonds Are Forever", "Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", "The James Bond Theme", and "Live & Let Die". Supersonic Sounds is a mixture of early 70s film themes and a few other numbers, put together by Eric Winstone with a vibe that's somewhere in the more easily grooving side of the U.K. sound library scene fo the time – not all-out funky, but with some really impeccable arrangements that set the record way apart from more familiar pop instrumental fare! Titles include "Shaft", "Oasis", "Something", "Good Vibrations", "Playboy", "Hacienda Happenings", and "The Good The Bad & The Ugly".
