Jazz trumpeter Till Bronner, one of the most sought after trumpeters in the world, has been charming audiences the world over with his sensual arrangements and intimate style for many years. Born in Germany and raised in Italy, Bronner credits his parents (both musicians) for guiding him to the light provided by Louis Armstrong and Charlie Parker. But when he began studying classical and jazz trumpet at Cologne's Music Academy, Till expanded his love of music to include hip-hop, R&B, fusion and pop. After releasing nine solo albums and garnering an ECHO award (German equivalent to the American Grammy), he continues to wear the many hats of musician, trumpeter, singer, composer, arranger and producer, collaborating with diverse artists like Pat Metheny, Ray Brown, Tony Bennett, Chaka Khan and Natalie Cole. Most recently, Bronner produced Love Is What Stays on Verve, the latest album from the celebrated vocalist Mark Murphy.
Till's 9th work Oceana epitomizes his subtle and sophisticated, sultry jazz sound. Both tranquil and sensual, yet playfully engaging, the album boasts fantastic duets with Bronner and former supermodel and French songstress Carla Bruni on "In My Secret Life," jazz chanteuse Madeleine Peyroux on "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" and Brazilian jazz singer Luciana Souza on "Pra Dizer Adeus." His smooth rich vocals shine on his version of Nick Drake's "River Man" and on "This Guy's In Love With You," a Burt Bacharach and Hal David staple. Piano and organ player extraordinaire, Larry Goldings rounds out this gorgeous recording with the help of Dean Parks on guitar, David Piltch on bass and Jay Bellerose on drums. Instrumentals "Bumpin," "Love Theme From Chinatown," "The Peacocks," and "A Distant Episode" complete the album, which can only be described as an instant classic.
