New York-based Mosaic Records, which has been a noted label in the jazz catalog, has just announced the launch of Mosaic Contemporary, a new imprint dedicated to compiling contemporary jazz releases. The label is being headed by Matt Pierson, former jazz VP/GM for Warner Bros. Among the first releases from Mosaic Contemporary on March 20th will be a collection of music from favorite guitarist Earl Klugh. The single disc CD, Ultimate Earl Klugh, will feature highlights of his 28-year career, from his 1976 hit Angelina through his popular collaborations with Bob James and George Benson. The album also showcases the work of guests Dave Grusin, Eric Gale, Steve Gadd, Patti Austin, and Lee Ritenour. Also being released on March 20th are: Ultimate Jaco Pastorius, a compilation of highlights from the late bassist's recording career; trumpeter Freddie Hubbard's 1978 recording Super Blue, and flutist Hubert Laws' 1970 breakthrough set, Afro Classic.
