BLUE NOTE RECORDS AT MERKIN HALL

Merkin Concert Hall in New York City will present several concerts during their 2006/2007 season that celebrate the legacy of Jazz label Blue Note Records. Plans are for classic recordings to come to life on Merkin’s fascinating Reissue series, from icconic pianist Andrew Hill performing the large ensemble music of his own Passing Ships, an album recorded in 1969 that was only recently discovered and released in 2003 to pianist Freddie Redd who will make a rare East Coast appearance performing The Music from the Connection, his score to Jack Gelber’s play The Connection, with Lou Donaldson taking on the alto saxophone role originally played by Jackie McLean. Merkin will also present one of Blue Note’s current rising stars when pianist Robert Glasper is featured on their acclaimed No Minimum series in intriguing duet settings with guitarist Lionel Loueke and bassist Me'shell N’Degeocello.

The schedule is as follows…
Oct. 9 – Robert Clasper in duets with Lionel Louke & Meshell N’Degeocello
Nov. 14 – Andrew Hill Octet: The Music of Passing Ships
Feb. 19 0 Reconnected: Freddie Redd Quartet with Lou Donalds
