JAZZWEEK AWARDS RECOGNIZE THE BEST JAZZ RADIO STATIONS, PROGRAMMERS, LABELS, & MUSICIANS OF 2006

The fourth annual JazzWeek Awards were presented at the JazzWeek Awards brunch during the fifth annual JazzWeek Summit on June 17, 2006, in Rochester, N.Y. , where JazzWeek recognizd the best jazz radio stations, programmers, labels and musicians of 2006.

JazzWeek Awards recipients in 14 categories were:
Station of the Year: Major Market: KUVO, Denver
Station of the Year: Medium Market: WWOZ, New Orleans
Station of the Year: Small Market: KANU, Lawrence, Kansas
Programmer of the Year: Major Market: Arturo Gómez, KUVO, Denver
Programmer of the Year: Medium Market: Derrick Lucas, WGMC, Rochester, N.Y.
Programmer of the Year: Small Market: Russell Haines, WWSP, Stevens Point, Wis.
Record Company Promotion Representative of the Year: Vikki Rzepka, Telarc
Major Label of the Year: Concord
Independent Label of the Year: Palmetto Records
Independent Promotion Company of the Year: New World 'n' Jazz Promotion & Marketing
Record of the Year: Jaco Pastorius Big Band 'The Word Is Out' (Heads Up)
Instrumentalist of the Year: Chris Potter
Vocalist of the Year: Kurt Elling

JazzWeek is a weekly publication covering the jazz and smooth jazz industry. JazzWeek publishes the only national jazz radio airplay chart and also publishes the most comprehensive smooth jazz singles and album airplay charts, all of which are powered by Mediaguide. In July, JazzWeek will add College Jazz and World Music airplay charts. The JazzWeek Summit is an annual conference for jazz radio, record labels, independent promoters and musicians, covering all aspects of radio programming, promotion, and music selection.
